New RB Leipzig manager Jesse Marsch has made it his number one priority to talk to Ibrahima Konate ahead of an all but complete move to Liverpool this summer.
The 47-year-old will take charge of RB Leipzig from the end of the season after Julian Nagelsmann was announced as the new manager of Bayern Munich following the news that Hansi Flick will depart the Bavarian club.
It’s one of the more classic Bundesliga managerial dominos which actually saw Jurgen Klopp linked with the Bayern job for what feels like the millionth time. The Liverpool boss made it clear that he intends to honour his deal which expires in 2024.
Anfield Central sources have learnt that Jesse Marsch is desperate to hold onto Liverpool’s likely first signing of the summer, Ibrahima Konate and plans on speaking to him in a bid to convince him to stay at the Red Bull Arena.

Marsch will try his best to turn Konate’s head back towards Leipzig but the thought of playing with Virgil van Dijk as well as the prospect of winning silverware with Liverpool is believed to be too attractive to turn down.
We have been told that Konate is as close to joining Liverpool as you can possibly be but the managerial switch-up at RB Leipzig will delay the formalities that remain to complete the deal.
The release clause will need to be paid, contracts signed and before anything is confirmed, a medical will need to be completed.
Konate’s injury history means that the medical will be closely observed but no hiccups are expected. The defender, who Infogol claims weighs 95kg, has been injury-free since the start of February.
Liverpool have once again made sure to get their most important business over the line as soon as possible. Fabinho’s move to Anfield came days after the Reds’ lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in 2018.
After a disappointing season both in Europe and domestically, ensuring that next season doesn’t follow in the same vein is crucial to making sure that Liverpool get back to the top.
