James Milner has signed a new deal to remain at Liverpool for an extra year after reaching an agreement with the club over the last 48 hours.

The 36-year-old veteran had three approaches and offers but decided to remain at Anfield for another year.

When asked about Milner and being so fit at 36 back in April, Jurgen Klopp replied: “No, but it would be interesting to look at Luka Modric. Is he not 36 as well? It was obviously a good generation. It’s difficult to be fitter than Milly.
“He’s a role model. I have told him, I can tell the whole world – nothing we have achieved in the last few years would have happened without James Milner, it’s as easy as that.
“Whether he was on the pitch or not, he’s set standards in a way not a lot of people can set standards, and it educated all of us.
“Milly played a great game today. I loved this game – and he played a massive part in it.”
The Athletic reports that Milner has accepted a significant wage cut to stay at Liverpool despite more lucrative offers from the aforementioned trio of clubs that wanted to sign him.
Jurgen Klopp’s role in extending his contract isn’t to be understated.
What was crucial was Klopp telling the player and the club hierarchy that he “is essential” to the Reds’ success on and off the pitch.

Oliver Kay reports that “an agreement has been reached over the past 48 hours” and the club soon revealed he has put pen to paper to stay at Liverpool for another year.
Milner has shown yet again why he is such a valuable member of the squad.
Accepting lower wages even if he has been very well paid to date is a commendable decision.
There aren’t very many players out there that would accept a pay decrease to stay at a club.
Liverpool may have progressed beyond the skill and playing ability of the former Leeds star but his experience, leadership and winning mentality make him a key player in some ways.
Hopefully, Milly can win several more trophies with the Reds next season and go out with a bang as he deserves after what has been a very successful move to Anfield.
