I can see it – Liverpool legend predicts star’s exit in the summer

Liverpool have made an outstanding start to the season but the contract situations of their top stars continue to dominate the headlines.

Arne Slot has not put a foot wrong since taking the reins from Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season and his team are sitting top of the Premier League table after seven games.

The new Liverpool boss has much to celebrate about the way he has started left at Anfield but he must be wary of losing a clutch of top stars next summer.

The club hierarchy are yet to sort out new deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk who will all be out of contract next summer.

Salah has been tipped to move to Saudi Arabia but Liverpool are confident of tying down Alexander-Arnold to a new contract by Christmas.

However, Mark Lawrenson is not so sure and indicated that interest from Real Madrid could still turn the defender’s head in the coming months.

What’s not to like about playing for Real Madrid – Liverpool legend

Real Madrid have been keeping tabs on the defender and are expected to make an offer to him in January if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold has not made a decision yet but Lawrenson conceded that he can see the player moving to Real Madrid to play alongside his England teammate and friend Jude Bellingham.

He would prefer to see the right-back stay but stressed that he could want to move to Spain, learn a new language and play for a club of Real Madrid’s stature.

“I think Trent will go to Real Madrid to go and play with Jude Bellingham, and he’d be allowed to play wherever he wanted in that team”, Lawrenson told Sportscasting.

“I can see it happening, I really hope it doesn’t though.

“He’s a well-educated guy and he’ll be thinking about going to Madrid and learning the language, earning good money, what’s there not to like?”
