The Mohamed Salah contract saga continues at Liverpool.
Liverpool will be under pressure this summer to tie down three of their best players. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are all out of contract at the end of the season. All three have played a vital role under Arne Slot this campaign. Their contribution will be a huge part of the reason Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.
The reds’ handling of the contract situations has not gone down well with fans and pundits alike. Paul Merson described the thought of losing three key players in one summer as ”criminal”:
In football terms, it’s criminal. It’s criminal that you can let three of the top players in the world of football have their contracts run down, and they could leave for absolutely nothing, go anywhere they want.”

With Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly out of the door this summer, Liverpool are pushing to sign Van Dijk and Salah to new deals. The fans were frustrated with the news concerning Trent last week, and the club are not prepared for more backlash if the other two players leave. Luckily, Liverpool have acted fast over the past week.
According to Football Insider, Mohamed Salah is closer than ever to signing a new deal. The report claims the only obstacle remains the length of contract. Liverpool are hesitant to offer a long-term deal to the 33-year old this summer. Salah wants to stay on his terms. For most of this season, the Egyptian international has rejected offers from Saudi Arabia. Salah feels he is still good enough to be playing at the top level for a couple of years, and does not want to leave Europe.
The new contract will surely come with a pay rise on his current £350,000-a-week deal. Salah has earned it after this season he’s having; the forward has over 40 goal involvements in the Premier League this season. If Salah does stay at Anfield, he could have a new striker to play with this summer. Liverpool are pushing to sign Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.
