Naby Keita could miss Liverpool’s trip to Elland Road this weekend due to political unrest in his native Guinea but the club has confirmed he is safe which is the important news.

The Reds will face Leeds United in their fourth Premier League game of the season before AC Milan will travel to Anfield for the opening Champions League fixture of the season.

The Liverpool Echo reports: “A group of soldiers claimed on Sunday to have ousted Guinea’s President Alpha Conde from power following hours of heavy gunfire near the presidential palace in the capital Conakry.”

Fortunately, a Liverpool spokesperson says that the club is in constant contact with the midfielder and he is safe. It’s likely Keita will miss the trip to Leeds but for now, the main concern is his and his national teammates’ safety.

Keita has made a strong start to the 2021/22 season and it was a harsh decision from Jurgen Klopp to drop him against Chelsea in favour of Harvey Elliott.

The teenager acquitted himself well but the right flank seemed to be busy with Mohamed Salah, Elliott and Trent Alexander-Arnold all looking to work their magic from the right flank.

Keita, who Salary Sport reports earns £120,000/week with the Reds, is hoping to use this season to prove to supporters that he has a future at the club and the sooner he can return to England the better.

Liverpool are already struggling with a number of injuries as was predicted by most supporters heading towards the end of the transfer window.

Fortunately, if Keita misses the game this weekend, Liverpool’s depth in midfield is actually a lot stronger than many of us actually gave Jurgen Klopp credit for.

The German could finally call on Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago for the first time this season and after the injuries they all had last term, it would be great to see them get an extended run together.

Hopefully, Keita can return to Merseyside soon and while we’d all like to see him back in action, slaloming through the centre of the pitch, his safety remains the no.1 priority during these unprecedented times.

You’ll Never Walk Alone, Naby.
