“Unbelievable”: Gary Neville was blown away by what £190,000/week Liverpool star did under pressure against Manchester United

Gary Neville

Gary Neville was on commentary for Sky Sports as part of their coverage for Liverpool versus Manchester United and he was blown away by Alisson Becker’s composure and passing skill.

While the Reds blew away Ralf Rangnick’s hapless players, the blueprint was quite simple when playing out from the back as United’s pseudo-high press failed time and again on Tuesday evening.

Alisson

Liverpool won 4-0 and although Alisson played 54/59 (92%) accurate passes, with many of them being passed straight to Fabinho before being worked out wide to either Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andy Robertson, the away side failed to cotton on.

And so the quadruple-chasing Merseysiders were able to play out from the back with absolute ease.

Alisson had 70 touches as he helped Liverpool control the game, alleviating the pressure when needed.

The Brazilian goalkeeper touched the ball more than every Manchester United player on the pitch as Liverpool exerted their dominance and control over their rivals, tormenting them for 94 minutes.

Alisson Becker

While speaking live on commentary for Sky Sports, former United right-back Gary Nevile joked that a first time pass from Alisson to release Liverpool on the counter attack was something he never managed in his 19 years at Old Trafford.

“That’s an unbelievable pass,” Neville joked live on TV. “I just watched a goalkeeper play a pass I don’t think I played in my entire career and I was an outfield player.”

Within the first few minutes of the game, Alisson produced a sumptuous piece of skill to twist out of danger as he was pressed high up the pitch by Bruno Fernandes.

Alisson Becker

The Brazilian has been arguably the most consistent player for Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League this season and will undoubtedly feature in the TOTY as his displays in goal get better and better each game.

In 1v1 scenarios, the former AS Monaco star is virtually unbeatable and allows his defenders to play an unusually high line without fear.

In the league this season, the 29-year-old has kept 18 clean sheets. Now one clear of Ederson (17).

Alison is certainly worth the £190,000/week wage that Liverpool reportedly pay him and he’s proved yet again that if you perform to a high level consistently level, people won’t speak about how much you cost to sign even if Liverpool had to spend £67m to secure his signature.
