Virgil van Dijk has held the captain’s armband since Jordan Henderson’s departure in 2023. Under him was Trent Alexander-Arnold as vice captain until he recently left for Real Madrid.

Andy Roberston is now the club’s vice-captain as the Reds continue their journey in various competitions this season. Things are a bit different in the women’s game, though.

The 4th of September marks the last date before the transfer window closes at midnight. Liverpool continued their deadline day tradition by signing another Swedish striker for the women’s team.

Beata Olsson was Gareth Taylor’s first addition to the women’s side. Taylor joined the Merseysiders in August after a five-year stint with rivals Manchester City.

The Women’s Super League campaign officially begins tomorrow on Friday the 5th. Chelsea will host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge as the WSL kicks off just one day after the closure of the transfer window.

Liverpool, though, will start their campaign two days later on the 7th, hosting Everton at Anfield. LFC Women’s gaffer Taylor has been finalising some details before the start of the season.

Among them, he recently identified the player he wanted to lead the team for the upcoming season. Defender Grace Frisk has been chosen as the new LFC Women’s captain following former skipper Niamh Fahey’s retirement at 37.

Niamh Fahey served the Reds for seven seasons, appearing for the Republic of Ireland in parallel. She scored five goals for the club before retiring at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Grace Fisk has played for the Merseysiders since 2023, and Taylor has described her as someone who embodies the captain he was looking for.

“It is such a huge honour for me to be appointed as club captain here at Liverpool. It was an amazing feeling when I was asked to take the armband”

“Obviously, I’ve not known Gaz that long, so for him to select me means a lot. It’s nothing I would ever have expected or was even thinking about.”

“I don’t think I could ever fill Niamh Fahey’s shoes, but I will try to lead the team in my own way, be there for everyone and show our supporters how much this means to me.”

“We have such a strong and committed group of staff and players, including the senior leadership group, and I’m really looking forward to the journey ahead together”, she told Liverpoolfc.com
