Former Manchester United scout expects Liverpool to ‘break the bank’ to keep star man

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has claimed that Liverpool will surely be desperate to hold on to Mohamed Salah and the club will look to break the bank to keep him on Merseyside.

Salah is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool and could leave the club on a free transfer next summer if a new deal is not agreed upon between the two sides.

Liverpool warded off interest from Saudi Arabia in the winger last year.

There is talk of the Saudi Pro League clubs being keen to sign the player on a free transfer next summer.

The Reds are keen to hold on to the winger but there are suggestions that the winger could eventually move on from Merseyside to earn big money in the Middle East next year.

Salah has kept his counsel on his future and speculation will only mount as we draw closer to the January window when he will be free to agree on a pre-contract with clubs outside England.

Suggestions are already being made about who Liverpool could potentially sign to replace the star man if he leaves next summer.

However, Brown feels the winger is too important for Liverpool to lose without a fight and expects the club to dig in to try and keep him on Merseyside.

Liverpool will break the bank to keep Salah at Anfield

Brown was in the enemy camp for years at Manchester United where he was the chief scout and he has a strong opinion about the Reds potentially holding on to Salah.

He insisted that the Reds without the Egyptian star won’t be the same team and they will fork out the money needed to keep him at the club.

The former scout claimed that Salah has remained one of those players who can change games even when the team are struggling and Liverpool should make every effort to make sure that he stays put on Merseyside beyond the end of his current contract.

“I think Liverpool will break the bank in their efforts to keep him,” he told Football Insider.

“Of all of the left-footed players who play on the right, he is the best by far. Liverpool without Mo Salah are not the Liverpool we have seen.

“He can change the game in a minute. If they’re struggling, they can get the ball to him and he’ll make something happen.

“He’s so important to the way the play.

“I would think they’d be desperate to keep him.

“They will be making every effort to tie him down to a new contract before they let him go to Saudi Arabia for nothing, I’m sure.”
