Former Manchester United boss could block Liverpool transfer

A familiar face could come back to haunt Liverpool in the near future.

The reds are lining up a few deals in the summer window. Liverpool are eager to see how this season ends before making any major changes to the squad. All signs point to the Anfield club backing Arne Slot in the transfer market in the upcoming window.

Slot and Liverpool were ”happy” with keeping key players last month, and rejected multiple offers. Saudi Pro League clubs had concrete bids for Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez rejected. Real Madrid also attempted to sign Trent in January, but the club refused to entertain the deal.

Liverpool’s decision to keep the core of the squad seems to have paid off. Slot’s side continue their march to win the treble after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Plymouth. The Premier League, Champions League and League Cup are still up for grabs.

Before Arne Slot step foot in England, he drew some comparisons with Erik Ten Hag. The outspoken Manchester United boss made his mark at Old Trafford despite a poor league record. When Ten Hag was sacked in October, he left the club having won the League Cup and FA Cup in consecutive seasons. An impressive feat which Liverpool fans will hope Arne Slot can replicate in his first season at Anfield.

Despite being out of a job for less than six months, Ten Hag has been linked with a return to Holland. The Sun report that Arne Slot’s old side Feyenoord are eyeing Ten Hag as their next head coach. This comes just days after they sacked former coach Pascal Bosschaart. The Eredivisie side are quickly looking to fill the vacant role as they compete in the Champions League play-off round.

Ten Hag coming in would certainly change the club’s short term plans. The 55-year old is a serial winner from his days at Ajax, and would be expected to do same at Feyenoord. This would mean that the club would be forced to change any summer transfer plans concerning their best players. David Hancko, one of the most experienced players in the squad, could remain past this summer. The defender has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Chelsea.

Feyenoord future up in the air

Liverpool will hope that appointing a new coach does not indirectly affect their transfer plans. Hancko is on the radar of multiple clubs in Europe. The defender would be a decent replacement for Virgil Van Dijk, who is out of contract in the next few months.
