Liverpool were the star of the show following a £440m+ combined incomings through the summer. However, all that was possible only because the worth of outgoing players covered half the cost of the expenses.
Alexander Isak was signed for £125m, a British record transfer from Newcastle United. The need was triggered by a sudden downfall in the Reds’ frontline depth.
Diogo Jota was driving through Spain in the summer with his brother. He was on his way to the airport as he had a flight back to the Isles.
Unfortunately, his trip didn’t end well as a road accident took both his and his brother’s lives. This was probably one of the biggest hits both tactically and emotionally for the whole club.
Darwin Núñez left for Al-Hilal following a dip in form under Arne Slot. The Uruguayan footballer was improving under former manager Jürgen Klopp, but the striker didn’t quite sit well with Slot’s system.
Despite his inconsistency, he did add depth to the squad, so a replacement was needed after Liverpool lost two strikers in the summer.
Luis Díaz was also sold to Bayern Munich for £65m as the Reds lost further depth up front. Interestingly, Díaz had opened up about a transfer in 2024, and new owners Fenway Sports Group were ready to offer him his deal.

Luis Díaz was offered to Manchester City in a swap deal

Following the agreement between the club and the player, Liverpool were told that the player wanted a switch to Manchester City, claims The Telegraph.
The Reds proposed a swap deal for Julián Alvarez, as the current 25-year-old forward was shining under Pep Guardiola, following a display of high tactical intelligence.
His off-the-ball play allowed for Erling Haaland to make the final strikes possible. City, however, was sceptical of dealing with direct title rivals.
The Manchester-based outfit refused to deal with the Merseysiders, claiming they didn’t want to directly strengthen a club they saw as their biggest rivals.
Unfortunately for Luis Díaz, the deal was off, and Liverpool started finding other suitors for the attacker. Alvarez, on the other hand, left Guardiola’s wing for Atlético de Madrid in a deal worth £82m.
The Argentine scored 29 goals across all competitions in his first season in Spain. The Latin American attacker has shown consistency and has also improved with time.
Alvarez has adapted well, considering the limited attacking chances you get under highly defensive managers like Diego Simeone.
