Federico Chiesa was on the bench as Liverpool broke their losing streak with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Arne Slot’s side had been under pressure these past couple of weeks.
Ryan Gravenberch made an impactful appearance to the team as he scored in the win at Anfield. Mohamed Salah also got on the scoresheet, marking a record for the Merseyside club.
After featuring in the last four games for the Reds, Chiesa was on the bench for the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa. The forward is yet to fully win over Arne Slot, who is reluctant to regularly use him in the starting lineup.
And with the January transfer window around the corner, a move could be on the cards.
Federico Chiesa could leave Liverpool in January
Fabrizio Romano has recently spoken about how there is interest from Italian clubs in the 28-year old. Despite his early season heroics, he is still behind Cody Gakpo in the pecking order.
Last season he was used in a central role in some games, but the arrival of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak means he will not get much playing time up top.
| Season | Minutes Played | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025/26 | 335 minutes | 2 | 3 |
It will be a difficult decision for Chiesa when the January window comes around. His father Enrico Chiesa fully supported the move when he made the decision to join in 2024.
But with the World Cup next summer, a lot of players will be having their eye on regular playing time to make the tournament. Italy can still make the competition later this year, and Chiesa has been one of their best performers in recent years.
He might make the difficult decision to leave for minutes in order to be in top shape for the World Cup.
Reds star to make difficult decision to stay
AC Milan and Napoli were seriously interested in signing the winger in the January window this year. And it will not be a surprise if they return to make enquiries after he has played just 335 minutes this season.
The fans are also happy with the player, who looks in no rush to make a huge decision. Fabrizio Romano added in his last update on Chiesa that both the player and the club are content with their current situations.
Liverpool are not eager to lose key squad depth in a season where they would want to push and compete in all competitions.
