“For example”: Fabrizio Romano drops statement on Liverpool transfer plans – Reds looking to repeat £36M signing

Jurgen Klopp wants Moises Caicedo

Liverpool will only look to sign a new player before the window closes if an opportunity for the right player arises.

The Reds are in dire need of some midfield reinforcement after seeing four of their central midfielders fall victim to injuries.

Combine that with a winless start to the Premier League season and the pressure has begun to mount on Jurgen Klopp to move for a new midfielder.

However, the club is reportedly not looking to panic buy and it seems they will only move if an opportunity similar to the Luis Diaz signing presents itself.

Latest Liverpool transfer news

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool will only sign a player in the final days of the window “if a smart opportunity like Luis Diaz appeared in January for example, otherwise, they will stay with the current squad.

The Reds signed Diaz for 36M and was a masterfully executed signing by Michael Edwards and Julian Ward.

“We’ve seen in the past that Liverpool under Klopp don’t tend to do panic buys – as things stand, the approach is the same.”

There will be no panic buying according to Fabrizio Romano (via Caughtoffside) and that’s how the Reds have done their business in recent years to great effect.

Latest reports have seen Naby Keita linked with Borussia Dortmund as well as Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and PSG’s Leandro Paredes linked with moves to Anfield.

However, the ‘right’ opportunity is unlikely to just present itself and Liverpool and Klopp need to break the mould – in a financially viable way – and sign a midfielder otherwise it’s likely their season could be derailed.

There are plenty of viable options on the market and plenty of Premier League proven players that can come in and give Liverpool an instant lift and become important squad players in the future given the futures of James Milner, Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are in doubt after next summer.
