Jurgen Klopp has had several phone calls with Kylian Mbappe and has called him several times it has been reported by Alexis Bernard.
The Le10Sport journalist has reshared an article he penned in April 2020 about Klopp speaking to Kylian’s father.
Except now he has added that ‘Liverpool monitor and follow Mbappe through Mr. Klopp’ and that he has called him ‘several times’.
He goes on to add that there is an ‘excellent feeling between the two men’.
The update from Bernard follows news from supposed transfer expert Ian McGarry, who says Kylian Mbappe would be willing to join Liverpool if a ‘freedom of movement‘ clause was inserted into the contract.
I’ll be the first to say that signing Mbappe is quite an unrealistic goal for Liverpool but only under FSG’s current setup for the club.
If they reconsider and break their wage structure, it’s a different story but everything we know about the American owners suggests that’s very unlikely.
The only thing that gives me hope is that Klopp has a magnetism about him that not many managers do and that could attract a young player like Mbappe.
Mbappe already speaks fluent English so that isn’t an issue but the financials involved are prohibitive and unless Liverpool’s stinginess since signing van Dijk, Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho has seen the club reserve store of money for a signing of this nature, it’s very difficult to imagine Liverpool blowing Real Madrid or PSG out of the water.
Both clubs can afford to pay him over £500,000 per week whereas Liverpool would likely think long and hard over offering him £250,000 per week.
Signing Mbappe is a very glamorous signing and even if he does arrive, you have to wonder what it means for Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.
