Jeremie Frimpong has been on Liverpool’s radar for months, but there were worries that he might not be defensively good enough for the team.
However, Liverpool have been stepping up their efforts to sign the Dutchman, and the club are now pushing to secure a deal for his signature.
Fabrizio Romano claimed that Liverpool’s interest in the Bayer Leverkusen star is genuine, and they are keen to take him to Anfield this summer.
“Jeremie Frimpong feels this is the right moment to go, to say goodbye to Bayer Leverkusen after fantastic years together”, Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Let me say that Liverpool’s interest is genuine. Liverpool are exploring this opportunity. Liverpool are interested in the player.
“Liverpool need to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will go to Real Madrid, and Frimpong is a player they like.
“There are other clubs in the race, but Liverpool’s interest is for sure confirmed.”
Frimpong has a £30m release clause in his contract.
