“They just want to kill everyone”: Villarreal veteran says Liverpool “cause you nothing but problems” ahead of CL clash

Etienne Capoue says that playing at Anfield is “hell” and claimed the Reds “just want to kill everyone and that’s it.”

Now, the French Villarreal star is obviously not talking literally but rather painting a quite graphic picture of what it’s like to play against the Liverpool high press.

He would know better than most after playing in England with Tottenham and Watford for eight years.

Under Jurgen Klopp, the high press has developed from season to season and while the Reds don’t squeeze teams as relentlessly as they used to, their counter-press is arguably the best in world football.

Unai Emery might tweak things but Capoue, Dani Parejo, Francis Coquelin and Giovanni Lo Celso will have an incredibly tough job on their hands when they come up against Liverpool.

Capoue has wasted no words in telling Yahoo! Sport exactly how tough it is to face Liverpool, comparing Anfield to hell.

“Anfield is hell, you have to say it how it is. It’s hell,” the 33-year-old said. “It’s the worst stadium I’ve been to in England.

“Whether it’s the atmosphere, the way they play… For 90 minutes, you live in hell.

“They have this ability to transcend themselves, to cause you nothing but problems, all the time, in any part of the field.

“They never stop, they rush you all the time, they only want to score goals, and even when they score, they carry on.

“They want to knock you out. They don’t care what or who is in front of them. They just want to kill everyone and that’s it.”

Liverpool might as well use Capoue’s interview as an indication of what the La Liga outfit is most afraid of and fly into the game with as much intensity as possible.

Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to make the tie as “boring” as possible after he watched Manchester City and Real Madrid go back and forth during their 4-3 first leg tie at the Etihad.

But a strong lead in the first leg before travelling to Spain for the second leg would be ideal and it seems as though the best way to go about getting that advantage would be to heed Capoue’s words and cause the La Liga side “nothing but problems.”
