€70million star Messi called ‘spectacular’ set to snub Arsenal approaches as he prefers ‘to join a club like Liverpool’

Mikel Arteta

Admirers of Lautaro Martinez may be interested to hear that the Argentine is set to snub Arsenal as he prefers to join the likes of Liverpool.

As the Reds have displayed in April, there is already a wealth of attacking talent at Anfield which culminated in a 4-0 win over Manchester United on Tuesday.

So far this month, 13 of their 17 goals have been scored by the likes of Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The other four were netted by Ibrahima Konate and Fabinho.

Liverpool could be the beneficiary of Martinez snubbing Arsenal this summer

The Gunners are in need of a prolific forward to take them to the next level under Mikel Arteta.

Alexandre Lacazette

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, via LFCTransferRoom, Martinez is set to snub Arsenal’s approaches this summer as he would prefer “to join a club like Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Real Madrid.”

However, according to Calciomercato.com, he is beginning to feel agitated by the constant speculation linking him with a move away from Inter Milan.

His agent even told FCInter1908: “He renewed with Inter because he feels part of a very important project. And if it goes well for Inter, Lautaro is happy.

“The important thing is what you see on the pitch! The union between the players and that the fans Inter are happy. And next year the goal is to continue to grow.”

Of course, the key snippet here is “if it goes well for Inter”.

Lautaro Martinez

There is always scope for the 24-year-old to leave in the summer but is a move to Liverpool likely?

How likely are Liverpool to sign Lautaro Martinez this summer?

At the start of March, it was reported by Marco Conterio that the Reds are “carefully” keeping tabs on the forward.

However, there are yet to be any concrete indications that Liverpool will make a move for him and with the 5ft7 forward reportedly valued at €70million (£63m), it would be a very high profile move.

Lautaro Martinez

Martinez has 19 goals this season, including a beauty of a strike against Liverpool in the Champions League and it’s quite easy to see why Lionel Messi called him “spectacular“.

Divock Origi is set to leave this summer as his contract is due to expire at the end of the season while Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are out of contract in 2023.

Whether or not Martinez is being considered as a replacement for any of them is unclear though.
