A Liverpool legend has called for dropping Mohamed Salah from the team’s starting lineup. After an underwhelming start to the season, it is time for Arne Slot to make some bold calls.
Mohamed Salah has been the talisman for Liverpool for years. The Egyptian was adjudged the Player of the Season last term and has been instrumental in the club’s resurgence under Jurgen Klopp and Slot.
However things have not gone well for the player this season. Last evening’s performance against Manchester United was the last straw though for this Liverpool legend.

Appearing in all eight Premier League games for the Reds, Salah has found the net twice, providing two assists in the process. However he has not found in Pool’s last four league fixtures.
“I think we’re at that stage now where Mo Salah shouldn’t be a guaranteed starter every week,” Carragher told The Gary Neville Podcast. “This is a real conundrum for the manager going forward.”
“I don’t think Salah should be like a Virgil van Dijk where it’s like ‘first name on the teamsheet’,” the former Liverpool man later added in the Sky Sports studio.
An automatic starter for the team, he was benched after Harry Maguire’s eventual winner in last evening’s game. The winger missed one huge chance in the second half. His gameplay in general was also erratic, causing much frustration to the Anfield faithful.
Build team around Isak and Wirtz
“Liverpool have got two away games – in the Champions League at Frankfurt and then they go to Brentford. I don’t think Salah should start both of those games”, Carragher continued.
With Salah about to turn 34 next year, the pundit feels Slot should build the team around new signings.
“It has to be Isak and Wirtz because they’ve spent the money on them and their age profile compared to Salah.”
Even during the game, the pundit called Salah ‘careless’. “Salah has been so poor with the ball. Liverpool supporters have been his biggest supporters. He has to do more. He’s been so careless on the ball.”
With growing frustration among fans and former players, calls for Salah’s head will only grow louder in the future unless the player himself can turns things around.
