Marcus Rashford is England’s golden boy and despite all the hype, Diogo Jota has exposed him in the Premier League this season and their progress next term will be interesting to follow.
Off the pitch, I am a huge fan of Rashford’s and I cannot believe that a 23-year-old is as mature as he is even with how quickly footballers are forced to grow up these days.
Having said that, he is grossly overrated on the pitch and Diogo Jota has exposed that this season with his extraordinary start to life at Liverpool after joining the Anfield outfit for a reported £45million fee.
He made an immediate impact for the Reds, scoring on his debut against Arsenal at the Emirates, finding the back of the net within 8 minutes of entering the pitch.
In the Premier League this season, despite missing 21 games due to a knee injury, Jota scored 9 goals which is just 2 fewer than Manchester United’s Rashford (11).
This is actually incredible when you consider that not only did the Englishman start 21 games more than the Portuguese forward but he also played a total of 1815 minutes more.
Jota has scored a goal every 123 minutes in the Premier League while Rashford has only managed to find the back of the net every 266 minutes which is essentially one goal every three games.
Transfermarkt value the Mancunian at £76.5million and there’s no denying that he is a top player but Jota is the better goalscorer.
Liverpool need Jota to remain fit next season as they get set to challenge for the Premier League title once again.
The former Wolves star will benefit from having fans back at Anfield and if he can start 30 league games for the Reds, he’ll be up there with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the goalscoring charts just judging by his goal to minute ratio.
