After links with other clubs cooled, the Saudi champions are now ready to make the Liverpool striker their marquee forward signing this summer. Núñez’s future at Liverpool has been uncertain after falling down the pecking order under new manager Arne Slot. According to reports, Italian champions previously expressed interest but failed to meet Liverpool’s valuation, and Al-Nassr have also cooled their pursuit. Now, Al-Hilal—led by head coach Simone Inzaghi are looking to make a decisive move.

Núñez Struggles to Find Consistency at Liverpool

Since joining Liverpool from Benfica in a deal worth up to £85 million, Darwin Núñez has struggled to live up to the high expectations. After a breakout season in Portugal where he scored 34 goals in 41 games—including six in ten Champions League appearances—his form at Anfield has been inconsistent. Núñez enjoyed his best season under Jürgen Klopp, netting 18 goals, but in the most recent campaign under Slot, he started only eight Premier League matches, scoring just seven times in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Al-Hilal Eye Núñez After Missing Out on Other Striker Targets

According to David Ornstein, Núñez is now the top target for Al-Hilal following failed attempts to sign Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, and Benjamin Šeško. Osimhen has joined Galatasaray, while Isak and Šeško remain out of reach for the Saudi side. With Hugo Ekitike arriving at Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt and Isak still heavily linked, it appears Núñez’s time at Anfield may be nearing an end. While Liverpool have yet to receive a formal bid, sources confirm Al-Hilal’s interest is genuine and serious.

A Move That Could Benefit Both Parties

The move could provide Liverpool with a significant financial boost while offering Darwin Núñez a chance to revive his career in a new environment.
