Bundesliga Giants Make Unexpected Move for Liverpool Talent

Harvey Elliott celebrating with the Premier League trophy in May 2025

RB Lepizig have set their sights on Liverpool player Harvey Elliott as the exit of Xavi Simons is reportedly almost done.

RB Leipzig Identify Harvey Elliott as Top Target

Liverpool could be set for more departures this summer, with Harvey Elliott now attracting strong interest from German side RB Leipzig. Known for developing young talents, Leipzig are looking to replace Xavi Simons, who is on the verge of joining Chelsea, and view Elliott as a viable successor.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, contact has been made between the two clubs, but the situation remains in its early stages. Liverpool reportedly value Elliott at over £40 million with a buy-back clause, or £50 million outright.

Elliott Seeking Consistent First-Team Minutes

The 21-year-old midfielder has struggled for regular game time at Liverpool, starting just two Premier League matches last season as both of which came after the club had already secured the title. With new attacking reinforcements arriving at Anfield, Elliott’s chances for minutes appear even more limited.

Former England striker Jermain Defoe recently commented that Elliott “has to get out and play” in order to fully develop. A move to RB Leipzig, a club with a proven record of nurturing young talent, could be the perfect next step in his career.

Other Clubs Also Monitoring Elliott’s Situation

While Leipzig have made their interest clear, West Ham United and several other Premier League clubs have also shown interest earlier in the summer. Liverpool are open to letting Elliott leave under the right terms, especially if the buy-back clause is included.

A Loyal Red With Proven Potential

Since joining Liverpool from Fulham in 2019, Harvey Elliott has made 147 appearances for the club, including a successful loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in the 2020–21 season. A lifelong Liverpool fan, Elliott also starred for England this summer, earning the Player of the Tournament award and scoring five goals including one in the final against Germany.

Despite his emotional connection to Liverpool, a move to the Bundesliga may now offer the regular minutes and developmental pathway he needs to progress further.
