Contract negotiations ‘ongoing’ for Liverpool transfer target

A Liverpool transfer target is currently involved in contract negotiations. With the impending departure of a major player, this transfer could just be the solution to the Reds problems.

After succumbing to three losses on the trot, Liverpool are looking to turn things around quickly. However things are easier said than done. Pool is guilty of leaving things late this season and the shoe finally dropped recently.

Trips to London have left them wanting. Defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea, leaving them in second place behind Arsenal. Squandering a five-point lead to their rivals. Conceding first has been a constant problem for the club.

And this is where this new inbound transfer can help Liverpool.

Bringing Dayot Upamecano to Anfield can be the answer. In spite of Bayern Munich’s efforts to tie him down they have been failing to sign a new deal. After spending four-and-a-half years at the Bavarian outfit, Liverpool might just be the right challenge for the French international.

However, Bayern president Herbert Hainer says they are close to closing a deal. According to Abendzeitung reporter Maximilian Koch, “The talks are ongoing, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are leading them. And of course, I hope that Dayot will remain with us for a long time.”

The French star can be the perfect replacement for his countryman Ibrahim Konate. The current Liverpool defender is keen on making a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2026. Despite wanting to sign an extension negotiations have failed to yield the desired result for the club.

Defensive crisis at Anfield

Contract negotiations aside, they are pressing concerns for Arne Slot at the back. Virgil Van Djik and Joe Gomez are the only available senior centre backs. Additionally both Konate and new signing Giovanni Leoni find themselves in the medical room.

Even a temporary solution joined the injured list with Liverpool announcing it themselves on the club website. Therefore, bringing someone’s Upamecano’s capabilities makes it important for Liverpool to maintain their dominance in English football.
