Club calm about January Liverpool ‘raid’ for £70m-rated Manchester United target

Liverpool are expected to spend money in the January transfer window after struggling to sign their top targets in the last summer window.

Arne Slot has defied expectations at the start of the season by taking the Reds to the top of the Premier League table after six league games.

They have also made a strong start to their Champions League campaign and the new Liverpool boss has calmed the fanbase who were nervous following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

The Reds hierarchy are thankful towards the Dutchman for managing to mask a poor transfer window where they failed to get their priorities done.

Liverpool want to back Slot in the January window, including signing an elite number 6 despite the performances of Ryan Gravenberch at the start of the season.

It also emerged that Liverpool are looking to beat Manchester United to the signature of Branthwaite by making a move for him in the winter window.

Everton make stance clear on a potential January raid from Liverpool for their top centre-back

Manchester United were keen to sign Branthwaite in the summer transfer window but never got close to meeting Everton’s £70m asking price.

The Red Devils are plotting to go back for him next summer but Liverpool are planning to make a move for him in the winter transfer window.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are remaining calm about a potential Merseyside giants offer for the centre-back.

It has been claimed that the Toffees are not expecting Liverpool to make a move for the defender in the winter transfer window.

Everton and the defender’s representatives feel bemused about the link with Liverpool as there has been no contact between the two clubs.

The Merseyside outfit remain confident they will be in a strong negotiating position even if they receive offers for Branthwaite in the winter window.

The Reds have not signed a player from Everton since 2002 when they signed Abel Xavier for a fee of £750,000.
