Liverpool are set to miss out on Donyell Malen as Borussia Dortmund are in the final stages of negotiations with PSV Eindhoven.
According to Rik Elfrink, reporting for Eindhovens Dagblad, ‘the planned transfer of Donyell Malen from PSV to Borussia Dortmund is basically complete.’
If all goes to plan, he will undergo a medical and will become a BVB player this weekend and, for Liverpool, it means they will miss out on a key target.
Liverpool supporters are growing antsy as each goes by that the club doesn’t make a new signing.
While there is still plenty of time to go until the end of the transfer window on the 31st of August, there is barely more than three weeks to go until the new Premier League season.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain starting for Liverpool against Stuttgart at striker in a friendly earlier this week, it seems as though he is destined to feature there this season for the Reds.
He’s more than capable of doing a job but I don’t think Jurgen Klopp is under any illusions that the Englishman can score 10-15 goals per season.
Liverpool need to move onto a new target hastily and if the way they were able to move onto Mo Salah from Mario Gotze, Roberto Firmino from Memphis Depay and Diogo Jota from Ismaila Sarr is any indication of how the club approaches second choice targets, we should be okay.
It’s a pity though as Malen is obviously a talented player and at just 22, he has most of his career ahead of him.
