Jurgen Klopp bowed out of his role as the manager of Liverpool at the end of last season amidst emotional scenes inside Anfield, which became his fiefdom during his nine-year stay on Merseyside.
Klopp will continue to remain a cult figure and one of the greatest managers in Liverpool’s history and his place in the hearts of the Reds fans is more than secure.
They remain indebted to the man who revived Liverpool as a major threat for domestic and European trophies again and ended their 30-year wait for the English top-flight title at the end of the 2019/20 season.
The German has moved on to other things and will take up the role of the Global Soccer Head of the Red Bull group of clubs from 1st January onwards.
While he remains popular at Liverpool, the decision to join the Red Bull group has turned many Dortmund fans against him and has made him a less popular figure in German football.
Klopp, who rejected a return to Borussia Dortmund after leaving Liverpool, has been accused of going against his football principles and breaking his promise to Liverpool.
No Jurgen Klopp tonight
Liverpool will take on RB Leipzig, a club Klopp will be responsible for from next year onwards, in the Champions League at the Red Bull Arena tonight.
There has been anticipation of the former Liverpool manager attending the game in East Germany tonight to watch the Reds play again and also prepare for his upcoming role in the Red Bull group.
However, according to The Athletic, the German won’t be at the Red Bull Arena tonight and is likely to escape the spotlight.
The focus will be on the game and Klopp is likely to stay away from the limelight and the stadium given his allegiance to both Liverpool and the Red Bull group.
A potential clash with Liverpool in the future
Klopp is a deeply emotional figure for the Liverpool fans and his standing amongst the supporters has not gone down since his decision to join the Red Bull group.
His role as the Global Soccer Head is unlikely to lead to any direct confrontation with Liverpool in the near future but that could change in the coming years.
Red Bull recently invested in Leeds United and their name is plastered on the front of their shirts this season.
Klopp could be asked to make football decisions for Leeds and if they return to the Premier League soon, it could lead to a direct clash with his former team on Merseyside.
