According to sources around the club, Liverpool will only be tempted to dip into the market if the right opportunity appears. Lyon star Rayan Cherki is on the market as the French club are in a race to improve their finances ahead of the summer. The Ligue 1 side could be relegated if they fail to balance their books in time.
Cherki is reportedly available for around €22-23million from now till the summer. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are said to be interested in the midfielder, with the German side very keen on the player. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are yet to move for the French star:
“My information is that at the moment, there is still nothing really close. There could be movement with Liverpool at the moment,”
“The appreciation of the player in terms of scouting him has been there, because they’ve been following the player.
“They are always following talents, but at the moment, I’m not aware of a proper negotiation between Liverpool and Olympique Lyon for Cherki.”
The 21-year old made history in the Champions League when he debuted in 2020. Cherki became the youngest-ever player to feature in a UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Reds transfer plans in January made clear
With a few weeks left to the end of the transfer window, it has become very clear that Liverpool will not be making any significant transfer moves. The team is in good form, and are at the top of the Premier League and Champions League. Liverpool are also competing on all fronts, and it looks like Arne Slot is focused on working with what he has at the moment, like he has done all season.
