Liverpool made it back-to-back 2-0 wins on Sunday with a fine attacking display against Brentford to continue their perfect start to the 2024/25 season.
Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah were the goalscorers with the former putting in a particularly exhilarating performance on the left wing. In addition to his goal, Diaz also assisted Salah for his to cap off a perfect game.
Data from Sofascore paints the full picture with the Colombian being awarded an 8.9 match rating for his display.
In addition to his goal, Diaz completed 100% of his 27 passes, played four key passes and was also a menace with his high press. The 27-year-old won the ball back nine times.
While last season was rife with rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona, he looks set to be one of the most important players for Arne Slot as the Dutchman looks to continue the incredible work Jurgen Klopp completed in his nine years with the Reds.
Luis Diaz has started this season on fire
The Liverpool Echo‘s Ian Doyle was taken by with Diaz’s energetic defending from the front, writing he “hounded the Brentford defence during the opening quarter.”
This is Anfield‘s Mark Delgado wrote that the winger “proved a great outlet” on the left and based on the first two games on the season, it’s safe to say that Diaz is going to be vital to Liverpool’s chances of success this season.
Even after two very entertaining attacking displays and two clean sheets to start the new campaign, many fans are reserving judgment until on how this season may pan out.
Losing Klopp is obviously a huge blow but so far the signs are very encouraging.
It’s important to mention that the German did leave Slot with a very enviable squad. Compared to the dross Brendan Rodgers left behind for Klopp to deal with, the difference is night and day.
While it would take no small measure of luck, there is a chance this side can win silverware this season and even stake a claim for the Premier League title. And if that happens, Diaz will be a key player. Should he continue the form he’s showcased in the last two weeks, Arne Slot will be rubbing his hands together with glee.
