Liverpool and Arne Slot will definitely be in the market for new attackers this summer.
The club are set to revamp their attack after watching this current crop under Arne Slot this season. All of Liverpool’s attackers have been inconsistent except for Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo. Despite having one of the best attacking records, the performances are yet to match.
Salah has been brilliant this season, and has lead the Premier League in goals and assists. Cody Gakpo has been by far the second best player in attack this campaign. The Dutch international is having his best season in England so far under Arne Slot.
Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have all been inconsistent in front of goal this campaign.
Quiz: Can you name these 10 former Premier League players?
Arne Slot speaks on Darwin Nunez this season

From the start of the year, it has been quite obvious that Arne Slot has not been a fan of Darwin Nunez. The Liverpool boss has preferred to use Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota up top in place of the Uruguayan. Nunez has been used as a rotation option for most of this season. Things looked to have changed when the striker came off the bench to score a brace against Brentford.
Nunez has failed to re-capture that spark since then. In Wednesday night’s draw against Aston Villa, the striker had a cameo to forget late on in the game. He missed a big chance near the end, and made the wrong decision to try and dribble past an onrushing Emi Martinez which cut short a Liverpool attack. There are multiple reports that Nunez will be one of the first out of the door this summer, with Italian clubs having showed interest.
Arne Slot spoke about the striker’s performance on Wednesday night:
“What I saw was an unbelievable pass from Conor Bradley, and what a power run from Dominik Szoboszlai. Who made in my opinion the perfect choice to square it because from a one-v-one with the goalkeeper he made it an open goal chance. Yeah… and then Darwin was of course… it was not his best, he’s right-footed of course, but it was still a big chance.”

Slot added that he was disappointed, as he hoped Nunez would have made more of an impact.
“And yeah… very unlucky and I was hoping that he could’ve got another one because a player like him wouldn’t miss two chances in a row and he was very close afterwards when he went close to Martinez again, but he made a great sliding tackle to win the ball.”
“I think we’re all disappointed but it’s normal that a player that missed a chance like this is always a bit more disappointed than the rest.”
Liverpool’s next game is away to Manchester City on Sunday.
Darwin Nunez set to leave this summer
Liverpool will reportedly make Nunez available in the upcoming window. Two Italian clubs are interested in a move for the Uruguayan. The reds should do everything possible to recoup most of the transfer fee. Liverpool could then invest that into a new signing this summer.
