Arne Slot gives shock warning to ‘elite’ Liverpool star

Liverpool are yet to enter the transfer market in this January window.

The Reds had a short run of bad results which lead fans to call for recruitments to boost the team. Arne Slot has guided Liverpool to the top of the Premier League and Champions League group phase. But there is concern that his squad could be stretched thin, with the Reds competing on every front.

The new surrounding key players at Anfield has also not died down since the start of the season. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to sign new long-term deals at the club.

Some good news is that Ibrahima Konate has been offered a new deal, with the club keen to tie down the defender in case someone like Van Dijk decides to leave.

In the past few weeks, Liverpool’s attacking options have come under scrutiny. With Mohammed Salah having scored just one goal from the penalty spot since the start of January, there were questions about where the goals would come from as the Reds dropped points to Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. Liverpool also failed to score as they lost the first leg of their League Cup semi-final to Spurs.

This weekend, the Reds returned to winning ways against Brentford. The result gave Arne Slot some breathing space as they opened the gap to Arsenal, who drew this weekend.

Darwin Nunez, who has been linked with a move away this January, came off the bench to score a brace to secure the 2-0 win. Now, Liverpool boss Arne Slot has challenged the Uruguayan to continue this form:

“The most difficult in football is to find consistency, as a team and an individual. Only a few players are able to be at the same level every few days.

“Then there is a big group of players who can play well but not every time. He is in that group. We have one or two who are in the group of the highest standard. That is a nice challenge for him.”

This could be the turning point for Darwin Nunez

The next game in the Champions League will give Nunez the chance to tie down his starting role in the absence of Diogo Jota. Slot challenging the striker could do wonders for his confidence in the coming games. If Nunez can continue scoring crucial goals, it will lessen the burden on the other attackers in the team.
