Alisson Becker receives warning about his place in the Liverpool team

Alisson Becker is currently recuperating on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace just ahead of the international break.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been one of the stalwarts of Liverpool’s success in recent years and has been the undisputed number one at Anfield.

Alisson has been a towering presence in the Liverpool goal and despite his advancing years, he has continued to remain the first-choice goalkeeper.

His injury will keep him out until November and the Reds will get a glimpse of what the future holds without the Brazilian between the sticks in the next few weeks.

Caoimhin Kelleher will play in place of Alisson in the coming weeks but he is not seen as the successor to the Brazilian and will be allowed to leave next summer.

Liverpool have already planned for life after the Brazilian and are committed to signing Georgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in the next summer transfer window.

There are suggestions that Liverpool will listen to offers for Alisson next summer but there are no guarantees that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Mamardashvili is being touted as his successor but Arne Slot will have a selection headache if both the goalkeepers are in the Reds squad at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Valencia goalkeeper admitted that he felt attracted to the project at Anfield and indicated that he won’t be coming to Merseyside to warm the bench.

He insisted that regardless of what Alisson does next summer, he will be joining the Reds to become their first-choice goalkeeper.

“I was attracted by the Liverpool project when the club’s representatives met with me to sign me”, Mamardashvili was quoted as saying by El Desmarque.

“I will fight for the starting goalkeeper position, even if the current goalkeeper does not leave the team.”
