Trent Alexander-Arnold has been expected to leave Liverpool on a free transfer to join Real Madrid in the summer. However, no announcement has been made yet, and while he looks likely to leave, there is speculation that a U-turn could be on the cards.
Real Madrid told Carlo Ancelotti in March that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be joining the Spanish giants on a free transfer in the next summer window.
However, the Italian’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu is under the scanner, and he now seems almost certain to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Ancelotti’s likely departure has now been tipped to have a bearing on Alexander-Arnold’s decision, and a major U-turn could be on the cards in the coming weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold could choose to stay at Liverpool

Former Premier League scout Mick Brown has claimed there is a decent chance now that the defender could continue at Liverpool beyond the end of the season.
He believes Ancelotti’s likely exit will make the right-back think twice about moving to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Brown also pointed out that Real Madrid are set for a period of rebuilding, and Alexander-Arnold might not be a major part of a new manager’s plans next season.
“I think there’s a chance he stays at Liverpool”, Brown said on Football Insider.
“It’s gone on throughout the season, there’s been so much talk, but it’s not signed yet.
“There’s definitely something in the fact that Carlo Ancelotti might be leaving Real Madrid.
“That might give Trent a reason to question his decision whether he goes or he doesn’t.
“It looks to me like Madrid are entering a rebuilding phase, and that will cause uncertainty for Trent Alexander-Arnold because he might not fit under a new manager.
“He knew Ancelotti from his time on Merseyside and that played a big part in the interest.
“All of a sudden, this twist has been thrown in at the last minute, so he’ll be asking questions and perhaps having second thoughts.
“The possibility is there that he might, under pressure from fans and from the club, stay at Liverpool.”
If Alexander-Arnold decides to stay, it would be one of the most major transfer U-turns in recent history.
