Former Rangers and Scotland striker Kris Boyd wasted no time rubbing salt into England’s wounds after their dramatic World Cup semi-final exit in Atlanta.
Boyd was in the stands to witness Argentina’s stunning late comeback, which ended England’s hopes of reaching the World Cup final against Spain.
Lionel Messi pulled the strings for Argentina as the South American giants turned the match on its head in the dying stages of the contest.
Anthony Gordon had his goal overturned late in the match, with Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez striking to send Argentina through to the final.
Boyd could barely contain his delight among the celebrating Argentina supporters, sharing snaps of himself belting out songs in the stands.
The former striker posted to Instagram with the caption “England are on their way home with Thomas Tuchel” as he revelled among the victorious fans.
He then went a step further, singing directly to the camera: “England is on the way home with Thomas Tuchel.”
Boyd’s taunting of Harry Kane and his Three Lions teammates came as Tuchel faces significant scrutiny over his future as England manager.
Despite the pressure mounting after such a damaging tournament exit, the German coach has pledged to honour his contract with England through to 2028.
Tuchel addressed his future directly after the defeat, stating: “We keep on going with the contract until the home Euros. I’m looking forward to that even though right now it’s difficult to look that far ahead.”
England’s collapse in the closing stages of the match will fuel further debate about Tuchel’s methods and his ability to guide the side to success at the home European Championship.
Boyd, never one to miss an opportunity to needle England, made the most of the occasion and fully embraced the Argentina celebrations in Atlanta.
