Bologna have reportedly entered into discussions with Rangers over a potential deal to sign midfielder Nico Raskin this summer transfer window.
The development could prove significant for Rangers, as it may provide a creative pathway to securing Scotland international Lewis Ferguson without spending enormous sums outright.
Raskin currently has two years remaining on his Ibrox contract, making this summer the ideal window for Rangers to maximise the Belgian’s transfer value.
Reports emerging from Belgium suggest that Bologna, known as I Rossoblu, have already held preliminary discussions with the Scottish giants over a possible agreement.
Ferguson has been a long-admired target at Ibrox, with Rangers keen to bring the midfielder back to Scottish football to follow in the footsteps of his uncle Barry.
However, securing Ferguson through a straightforward cash transfer would likely prove extremely costly given the player’s profile and reputation in Serie A.
Since joining Bologna, Ferguson has attracted reported interest from major Italian clubs including Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan, which significantly inflates his market value.
Bologna would therefore be expected to demand a substantial fee to part with Ferguson, even amid reports that talks over a new contract for the player have stalled.
Any concrete move from Bologna for Raskin could give Rangers the leverage needed to propose a deal that incorporates Ferguson as part of the overall package.
Such an arrangement would likely see Rangers accept a reduced cash fee for Raskin, with Ferguson’s value effectively offset against the total, potentially creating a solution that benefits all parties involved.
Rangers supporters will be hopeful that the club’s hierarchy can structure a deal creatively enough to bring the former Hamilton Accies and Aberdeen star back to the Scottish Premiership this summer.
