Go Ahead Eagles technical manager Marc van Hintum has confirmed that Danish winger Jakob Breum is free to leave the club if a suitable offer arrives this summer.
Van Hintum made the admission in an interview with Voetbal International, revealing that the 22-year-old has rejected the possibility of extending his contract with the Eredivisie club.
“Jakob is only under contract for another year and does not want to sign an extension,” Van Hintum said, making the player’s situation at the Dutch side crystal clear.
“That means he is allowed to leave if a good offer comes in, but so far that has not happened. There is nothing concrete happening regarding him yet,” he added.
Celtic first pursued Breum 12 months ago, submitting multiple bids that Go Ahead Eagles rejected as the Dutch side held firm on their valuation of the wide man.
The Hoops were reportedly unwilling to match Go Ahead’s £5 million asking price at the time, eventually pivoting to sign Sebastian Tounekti from Hammarby for £5.5 million instead.
With Breum now entering the final year of his contract and refusing a renewal, Celtic are expected to revive their interest and push harder for a deal this transfer window.
The club’s summer recruitment ambitions extend beyond Breum, with Celtic also reportedly tracking Bosnian playmaker Ivan Basic, who currently plays his club football for Astana in Kazakhstan.
The 24-year-old has been on Celtic’s radar during the World Cup, where he has made appearances in group stage clashes with Canada and Switzerland while representing Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kazakh outlet Sports 24 reports that Celtic and Bulgarian club Levski Sofia are both weighing up a move for Basic, with Astana believed to be seeking around £2.6 million for his signature.
On a third front, Celtic are set to open talks with Boca Juniors over a permanent deal for left back Marcelo Saracchi, according to exclusive reports from Record Sport.
The 28-year-old has been told by Boca Juniors boss Rodolfo Arruabarrena that he will not feature in plans for the coming season, effectively freeing him to pursue a move elsewhere.
Saracchi could become permanent Celtic manager Martin O’Neill’s first signing since O’Neill was confirmed in the role, adding further momentum to what is shaping up to be a busy summer at Parkhead.
