Falkirk striker Barney Stewart is on the verge of completing a move to West Bromwich Albion in a deal worth seven figures plus add-ons.
The 22-year-old travelled to the Midlands on Friday for talks with the English Championship club, signalling the transfer is nearly finalised.
Stewart has agreed terms on a four-year contract that will deliver a significant wage increase for the young forward.
West Brom, managed by James Morrison, refused to walk away after their opening bid and have since increased their offer to get the deal done.
Record Sport exclusively broke the story of West Brom’s interest and opening bid last month, with the Baggies now on the verge of landing their man.
Falkirk held firm throughout negotiations, having turned down a number of offers from West Brom and English League One sides including Oxford United.
Bairns boss John McGlynn was keen to hold onto the Scotland under-21 international, but the financial package on offer made it nearly impossible to stand in the player’s way.
The fee will represent a substantial profit for Falkirk, who signed Stewart from Heriot-Watt University back in 2024.
Stewart impressed on loan at Dunfermline before returning to Falkirk and hitting double figures for the club last season.
The deal comes shortly after Falkirk sold Calvin Miller to Hearts for a six-figure fee, giving the club considerable resources to work with this summer.
McGlynn will have funds available to further strengthen the squad, with some of the transfer income also going toward replacing the club’s artificial pitch with a grass surface.
Falkirk have already been active in the transfer market, bringing in Craig Sibbald, Ethan Laidlaw, Deniss Melniks, Jack McMillan, and Paul McGovern.
The club has also been linked with a potential move for Partick Thistle midfielder Ben Stanway as they continue to rebuild ahead of the new season.
Stewart’s departure marks a significant moment for the Bairns, who have developed him into one of Scottish football’s most sought-after young strikers.
