Rohl made a heartfelt pledge to Rangers supporters after his turbulent eight-month stint at Ibrox finally came to a close.
The German coach vowed he would return to management as a better and more experienced leader, words that appear to have resonated far beyond Scottish football.
RB Salzburg are now closing in on a deal to appoint Rohl, reportedly prepared to pay around £2 million to buy him out of his Ibrox contract.
His final match in charge of Rangers ended on a high, a 5-2 victory away to Falkirk on the last day of the season.
That win brought welcome relief after a brutal four-game losing streak that effectively destroyed any lingering hopes of winning the title.
Derek McInnes has been lined up to replace him at Rangers, marking the end of a chapter that promised much but ultimately fell short.
Speaking after that final match, Rohl reflected honestly on the emotional nature of his time at the club with clear disappointment in his voice.
“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster,” he said. “Four weeks ago here, I was totally convinced that we could win the league, but we couldn’t.”
“We were competitive but not good enough in the key moments,” he added, pinpointing exactly where his side had failed to deliver when it mattered most.
Rohl also addressed the demands of managing one of Scotland’s biggest clubs, making clear the challenge had never been lost on him throughout his tenure.
“Rangers is a big job, a demanding job,” he said. “That’s the reason why I like to be here. I demand a lot from myself and players.”
He closed with a forward-looking declaration that has since taken on fresh significance given the interest from Austria’s most prominent football club.
“After these games, I will be a better manager than before,” Rohl said, a promise that Salzburg’s hierarchy appear to have taken seriously.
The Austrian club’s willingness to invest £2 million to secure his services suggests they believe his self-assessment is well-founded and worth backing financially.
