Alexander Isak has been the talk of the town since his record-breaking transfer to Liverpool on deadline day. The Reds broke the bank to sign the Swedish striker from Newcastle United for a fee of £125m.
This was the second time Liverpool broke the book this summer, as Slot and Co. previously broke the same record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The deal is said to eclipse £116m in total, making it the second most expensive British transfer in history. Obviously, Isak’s transfer set an even higher record for the clubs on the Isles.
Newcastle United were tough customers, considering their stubbornness in keeping their coveted striker at St. James Park. The striker, on the other hand, was already in Anfield mentally and couldn’t commit any longer to the Tyneside outfit.
Apparently, another big Premier League club tried to poach the striker this summer before Liverpool’s move. The Daily Mail reported that Chelsea made a move on the striker before Liverpool’s final call on deadline day.
The Blues also had a significant transfer window as they signed both Liam Delap and João Pedrom from Ipswich Town and Brighton and Hove Albion, respectively.

Alexander Isak sets high expectations ahead of the season
The Swede’s agent made it clear that Isak was hoping for a move to Anfield and wouldn’t take the offer to play for The Blues. The saga has been going on long with some sources claiming interests from either side dating May.
Alexander Isak seems happy with the move despite the manoeuvres he had to pull for it. In the end, a social media lash out from the player led to his only way out.
He talked about his desire to play for Liverpool in his first interview post-transfer, claiming the new era and the historical traditions supporting his interest.
“I think it’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is. The history of the club. Me getting the chance to be a part of this, I want to create history. I want to win trophies.”
“That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me, and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.”
