Virgil van Dijk will soon sign a new contract and extend his stay at Liverpool beyond the end of the current season. After Mo Salah, the Dutchman will become the second superstar to commit his future to Anfield, but the Reds want to bring in his replacement before the captain leaves the club. However, they are now set to face competition from Chelsea for the signature of a defender who has been earmarked as Van Dijk’s replacement.
Salah’s contract extension has come as a huge relief for Liverpool despite concerns that the forward could still move on from Anfield after just a year, despite signing a new two-year deal.
Van Dijk’s new deal confirmation is expected to be imminent. But Liverpool are keen to ensure they still sign a centre-back this summer despite the Dutchman staying.
Liverpool are tracking several centre-backs, including a few in the Premier League, but they are about to face competition from Chelsea for one of their top targets.
Can you name the team Liverpool signed these players from?

Chelsea are ahead in the chase for Reds target in the Premier League

Marc Guehi has been on the radar of Liverpool for over a year and has long been earmarked as the replacement for Van Dijk at Anfield.
The Crystal Palace centre-back is considered one of the best in the Premier League, and the Reds are interested in getting their hands on him.
However, Chelsea are also chasing him and Van Dijk signing a new Liverpool contract has put the Blues in the box seat to sign the England international.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Blues are plotting a swap deal to take Guehi back to Stamford Bridge, where he started his career.
Chelsea are prepared to offer a fee of £50m plus Trevoh Chalobah to Palace to secure a deal to sign Guehi in the next summer transfer window.
The Blues rate Chalobah at £30m and believe that an £80m valuation of Guehi should be good enough to get their hands on him in the upcoming months.
