Real Madrid have been chasing the defender since last year, and there has been quite confidence at the Santiago Bernabeu about getting him in the summer.

Liverpool were adamant towards the end of last year that Alexander-Arnold had not made a decision, and he could still stay at Anfield beyond his current contract.

However, that confidence disappeared last month when it became almost clear that the defender would be joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

According to The Athletic, Ancelotti was told by the board in March that Alexander-Arnold would be a Real Madrid player next season.

The Real Madrid boss has been aware that the Liverpool superstar will be joining the club this summer for over a month.

Liverpool saw him as a future captain, but the defender has a larger ambition, which includes winning the Ballon d’Or, and he wants to join a club of Real Madrid’s stature in European football.
