Liverpool on alert as transfer target shares Premier League ambitions

Depending on how the season ends, the club will either be set up to upgrade the current squad or replace key players. The trio of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to sign new contracts at Anfield. Arne Slot acknowledged how the trio would factor in the transfer plans this summer:
“…you always have to be prepared for all the new things coming up: Will the players that don’t play a big part at the moment? Will they be able to do this another year? Will they fight for their place, or will they [want to] go somewhere else? So we have to be prepared for the next window and what we can do.
“Of course, we have some contractual situations that you don’t probably don’t know about,” he added jokingly. “But Trent, Mo, and Virgil haven’t extended yet. So we are aware of the fact that we have to be sharp and ready for things that can happen.”
The Athletic reports that Athletic Club winger Nico Williams is open to a Premier League move. The 22-year old had a breakout season last year, and has been on the radar of Europe’s top clubs. Williams has a release clause reported to be around the €60million mark. Liverpool are said to have serious interest in the player.
Williams ranks fourth in successful take-ons and second in progressive carries in La Liga this season. His direct dribbling style will add another dimension to Arne Slot’s attack.
Reds need to be active this summer
No one knows how this season is going to end yet. But Liverpool have positioned themselves for success, and will possibly win at least one trophy. The aftermath will determine how far the club want to go. This summer window is an important one, as it will be a crucial step for Arne Slot’s success next season.
