Liverpool warned as bargain signing could end up costing €950,000 per game

Liverpool have drawn up a long list of targets as they anticipate a busy summer window.

The reds are in great position for success and silverware from now till the end of the season. Liverpool face Spurs on Thursday night with the chance to reach the League Cup final. But first they will have to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg. Arne Slot has fine tuned this team, and they look far different than they did last season.

Players like Alexis MacAllister, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch seem to have turned their careers around. Last season, these players were inconsistent with some fans feeling that they were failed transfers. This campaign has been really different, each of them have showed up and proven why they were signed for the first team.

Liverpool are reportedly gearing up for a busy summer transfer window. After adding just one permanent signing from last summer, the club is expected to bring in more new faces. A lot of the business will be down to if the club’s best players decide to stay at Anfield. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are set to leave n free transfers in the coming months.

Caught Offside are reporting that Liverpool are seriously looking at a midfield target. Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is on the club’s shortlist. According to the report, de Jong will be available for a bargain fee of €35million. The Dutch midfielder is in the last 18 months of his contract and the La Liga side want to offload his wages.

This is where the problem lies for the reds. Frenkie de Jong is currently on €365,385 per week, with bonuses, the wages rise to above €400,000 per week. This has been a problem for Barcelona over the past year. Due to injuries and fitness problems, de Jong played just 20 league games last season. Which equates to Barcelona paying him €950,000 per game.

Is de Jong worth the move?

The Barcelona midfielder is 27-years old with a lot of experience under his belt. His current value is a bargain for any team. But the wages will be a huge obstacle. And with the current contract issues at Anfield, the club would ideally not break their wage structure for their latest signing. If Liverpool can convince him to drop his wage demands, Frenkie de Jong would be a very good transfer deal.

Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller is the other option according to reports.
