Liverpool were active in the transfer market during Monday night’s deadline.
The reds worked out deals as some players departed Anfield. Marcelo Pitaluga, Tom Hill and Luca Furnell-Gill left on permanent deals. While Calvin Ramsay, Stefan Bajcetic, Dominic Corness, Kaide Gordon and Jayden Danns left on loan deals. Liverpool decided to make decisions on some of these players after their Champions League game against PSV.
Reds boss Arne Slot stated that after the game, he would discuss with Richard Hughes on some of the players:
“At the moment we have most of our players fit, so we will have this discussion tomorrow, me and Richard [Hughes], about these players,”
The Dutch coach even made a decision to include one youngster in the first team squad for the rest of the season.
“But there’s definitely one of them that will not go on loan, and I think you know which one I mean… James McConnell.”
Quiz: Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?

Manager makes admission about Liverpool transfer

Liverpool had to act fast in the January transfer window when it came to two deals. Stefan Bajcetic was on loan at Red Bull Salzburg. However, after Pep Lijnders was sacked, Bajcetic got less playing time. The midfielder was out of favour and barely featured since December. Liverpool cancelled the loan deal, and arranged a new loan with Las Palmas. Bajcetic made his first appearance for the La Liga side this week.
Kaide Gordon was also in a similar situation. He made only one start for Norwich in the Championship. Gordon was barely on the pitch, but his only goal against Hull City showed promise. Liverpool had to step in and cancel the initial loan. The reds then sent Gordon out on loan to Portsmouth.
Pompey boss John Mousinho says the arrival of Kaide Gordon, has made the squad ‘much stronger’:
‘The decision came down to us looking and going “it’s not ideal, it’s not something we desperately wanted to do and bring in six loans because of the fact we can only name five in the matchday squad”. When Kaide became available, we had to trade those two off so it was the trade off by saying what’s the best thing for the football club and there might be a bit of short-term pain sometimes on some weekends if we end up leaving someone out. But we think it makes us stronger as a squad and gives us a better chance of staying in the league.’
