How Liverpool saved €60M last year

Liverpool were one of the lowest spending clubs in the Premier League during the summer transfer window. The Reds are also yet to make a move this January despite the rumours surrounding the club. Slot and his team sit in a strong position, and will hope to end this season with a trophy.
The Liverpool board are currently preoccupied with the futures of some key players at the club. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are yet to sign new deals at the club and are set to leave on free transfers this summer. The club is winning off the pitch, with the team set to receive a financial boost from this year’s Champions League.
Liverpool legend John Aldridge has spoken on how the club saved a lot of money in the summer. The former player says the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch as a first team star was the reason why the Reds pulled the plug on a €60million deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
“Ryan Gravenberch has saved the owners a lot of money this season,” Aldridge wrote in his Echo column. “He has saved them a fortune! They were prepared to bring Martin Zubimendi in and spend a lot on him.”
Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation
The dutch midfielder has been key to everything Liverpool have done this season. He has turned his career around, and is currently one of the best midfielders in Europe. Arne Slot should also be credited with bringing the best out of the player with his new style and tactics with the Reds.
