Liverpool have made an outstanding start to the season under new manager Arne Slot and have emerged as potential contenders to win the Premier League.
Arne Slot has gone in and made a major impact as Liverpool’s manager and cleared the doubts about his credentials to hold the post after Jurgen Klopp.
The Merseyside giants are sitting at the summit of the league table after seven games and are being touted as contenders to win the league at the end of the season.
Slot has managed to bring the best out of his squad and some of the players are playing the best football of their career under the Dutchman this season.
Barring a defeat at Nottingham Forest, Liverpool have looked imperious but many feel it is down to the kind fixture list they had to face in the first couple of months.
Liverpool have back-to-back league games lined up against Chelsea and Arsenal respectively and Shearer feels that their real test is about to start.
Alan Shearer wants to see whether Liverpool are the real deal in the next month or so
Liverpool have 18 points from a possible 21 and Shearer conceded that it has been nothing short of an impressive start by the Reds.
However, he stressed that whether they can go toe-to-toe with Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race is something we are yet to find out.
The former striker believes the next six to eight weeks will test Liverpool’s mettle and whether they are good enough to lead the title charge until the end of the season.
He praised Slot for finding the minor adjustments that have brought the best out of his team but warned that his real test lies ahead.
“We’ve been saying how impressive Liverpool have been so far this season, other than their one hiccup at home to Nottingham Forest”, Shearer told Betfair.
“People have been asking, ‘can they go the distance? Can they challenge Man City and Arsenal to win the Premier League?’ Well, we’re about to find out in the next six to eight weeks whether Liverpool are the real deal or not.
“They’ve made a really, impressive start under Arne Slot, who has gone in there, changed and tweaked a few things and showed what he can do with this side.
“They have some huge games over the next month, so it will be a real test to see what level they are at.”
