Barcelona not giving up on signing 23-year-old Liverpool target who could be avaialble for nothing next summer

Joan Laporta Barcelona

Liverpool will have big decisions to make on certain areas of their team next summer as sporting director Richard Hughes plots an evolution of the squad under Arne Slot.

The recruitment team are planning to bring in a midfielder in the January transfer window but they are also drawing up ideas for next summer.

With Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk’s futures up in the air, the club’s plans are likely to be more dynamic and fluid next summer depending on the situation.

However, there could be a growing consensus inside the club that they would be required to bring in a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

The Scotland international has been a great servant of the club but turned 30 earlier this year and is expected to slow down in the coming seasons.

Kostas Tsimikas has done an admirable job as his deputy but Liverpool want to bring in a long-term solution at left-back.

Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies is one of the players the club are tracking as a potential successor to Robertson.

Barcelona are still chasing the Liverpool full-back target

Davies is out of contract at the end of the season and for the moment, there are no talks over a new deal between the two camps.

Bayern Munich are prepared to reopen negotiations with the player but are not ready to offer over-the-top wages to keep him at the club.

Real Madrid have been keeping an eye on him for a while and even Manchester United are interested but the Red Devils do not feel they have a massive chance of signing him.

Barcelona have also been keeping tabs on him and according to Mundo Deportivo, they are still very much in the race to sign him.

The Catalan giants want a left-back next summer and they are not ready to wave the white flag in pursuit of Davies.

The player has not made a decision on his future yet and Barcelona are keen to convince him to move to the Nou Camp next summer.

His potential free agent status works for Barcelona as they are still dealing with a complicated financial situation.

Liverpool will need to move early for him if they have to beat continental competition for his signature.
