£35M Liverpool deal set to collapse after latest update

Liverpool spending over £400 million in the summer transfer window meant that they needed to make space in the squad. Some key decisions also had to be made when it comes to balancing the books.

The Reds strengthened the team with signings like Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. Fans were excited as they were confident in their team repeating the success of last season.

But it was also a sour note for some players, including Liverpool youngsters Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah. Both had been at the club for a while; with Quansah an academy graduate, and Elliott having been a squad member since he was a teenager.

Jarell Quansah got a permanent move to Bayer Leverkusen, while Harvey Elliott was loaned out to Aston Villa.

Liverpool transfer deal on the brink of collapse

Over two months into the season, no one would have expected what is currently happening at Anfield. After Wednesday night’s embarrassing 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace at home, Arne Slot’s side have just one win in seven games.

The summer signings do not seem to be pulling their weight on the pitch, and some have barely featured due to injury problems. One Liverpool deal already in danger of failing is Harvey Elliott.

The midfielder has made just seven appearances in all competition this season. He does not seem to be favoured by Aston Villa boss Unai Emery. When the Spaniard was asked about the Liverpool loanee’s lack of playing time, he made his stance clear: “Harvey is a 10 number in our structure… and there is still adaptation to add himself individually in our structure, his performance was not enough (up to this point).”

Harvey Elliott could return to Liverpool next summer

As it stands, there is a high chance that the move falls through before next summer. But it is a long season, and a lot of things can change between now and the end. Unai Emery seems to have found a working formula for his side.

The Villans have won six of their last seven games in all competitions since their poor start to the season. Up next is a game against Arne Slot and Liverpool, which is definitely set to be a huge clash.
