22-year-old Liverpool star discusses the Arne Slot effect

Arne Slot has taken to being the Liverpool manager like a duck to water and has managed to silence the sceptics since he arrived at Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool are sitting at the summit of the Premier League table after garnering 18 points from their opening six league games of the season.

The Merseyside giants have emerged as real title contenders under the new manager. The Dutchman has managed to find a tune out of players whose Liverpool careers’ were under the scanner ahead of his arrival.

Liverpool’s failure to sign a defensive midfielder in the summer meant Slot had to find a creative solution to a very real problem and looked within the squad to find a player.

Ryan Gravenberch has been repurposed into a defensive midfielder and the Dutchman has been getting enthusiastic praise from several observers in the game for his performances.

The midfielder was a bit-part player under Jurgen Klopp last season but has emerged as the lynchpin of the Reds midfield under the tutelage of Slot.

Several superlatives have been used to describe Gravenberch’s performances this season but the midfielder indicated that the credit goes to Slot.

He revealed that he has been in conversations with the Liverpool manager since last season and it has allowed them to develop a strong relationship.

The Dutchman stressed that Slot’s style of football and his vision for the game aligns with what he likes and therefore, his coaching has suited him.

“I discuss everything with him”, Gravenberch told ESPN Netherlands via Voetbal Primeur.

“We spoke last season and then we also talked about life.

“I have a good relationship with him and I am very happy that he is here. We think the same. He loves football and building from the back.

“That suits me very well.”

Liverpool will hope Gravenberch returns from international duty later this month fit and ready for the big clash against Chelsea on 20th October.
