Liverpool are out of action for another two weeks as the international break is about to start. Their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea have both been postponed and they will face Brighton and Hove Albion next on the 1st of October.
12 players from the Liverpool side have been called up for international duty and here are the players in question.
Liverpool’s first team players called up for international duty:
• Mo Salah
• Virgil Van Dijk
• Alisson
• Trent Alexander-Arnold
• Fabinho
• Luis Diaz
• Darwin Nunez
• Diogo Jota
• Roberto Firmino
• Kostas Tsimikas
• Naby Keita (injured)
• Harvey Elliott (U21)— Anfield Edition (@AnfieldEdition) September 17, 2022
The Brazilian Trio
Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino have been called up for the Brazil squad as they prepare to face Ghana and Tunisia. Roberto Firmino has been given the nod over in-form Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, after his impressive start to the season.
Unlike Fabinho and Alisson, he isn’t a regular in the side and will be keen on making an impression to make the upcoming World Cup squad.
The Curious Case of Naby Keita
The Liverpool midfielder showed what he was capable of last season when he stayed fit for a long period of time. We finally thought it was a turning point in Keita’s Liverpool career, but his start to this season has been disappointing.
Keita only featured in Liverpool’s Community Shield triumph over Manchester City as a substitute. He hasn’t been in the squad since due to a muscle injury. He was omitted from the UEFA Champions League group stage squad, and many people believed the injury to be long-term.
However, Keita has been called up for the Guinea side and previously said, “Naby Keita is injured and he is recovering from his injury,” he said. “His situation is improving and he is even ahead of schedule.
We’ll see just how serious his injury is during this international break, and hopefully, we’ll see him return when the Premier League returns.
Harvey Elliott earns first England U-21 call-up
There were rumours that Gareth Southgate was thinking of calling up Harvey Elliott to the England squad. However, the rumours turned out to be false and he got his first under-21 call-up instead. This is still a step up for Elliott, who has only played for the under-19 side before this. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the only Liverpool player to make the England squad.
🚨 NEW: Liverpool's Harvey Elliott and Brentford's Ivan Toney are both very much in the thoughts of Gareth Southgate for his latest England squad, though it's touch and go whether either will be included at this stage. #lfc [sky] pic.twitter.com/6I8KHOddI5

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Kostas Tsimikas also earned a spot in the international squad. Liverpool fans will be happy that Thiago missed out on the squad, so there is less chance that he’ll get injured before the Premier League returns.
