Liverpool have continued to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table after eight games but there is always the spectre of key players picking up injuries at crucial junctures of the season.
Alisson Becker is now expected to be out until December due to the hamstring injury and Arne Slot is desperate to keep his big players fit to maintain the momentum in the campaign.
Liverpool are particularly vulnerable in the middle of the park after the club failed to bring in midfield reinforcements in the summer.
Any injury to one of their midfielders could leave them exposed despite Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones stepping up this season.
Alexis Mac Allister picked up a groin injury just before the last international break but immediately reported for the Argentina camp in Miami, much to Liverpool’s horror.
It is now emerging that the club specifically asked the player to pull out of international duty to give him time to recuperate from the injury in England.
The Liverpool star’s mother has raised eyebrows on Merseyside
It appears that the midfielder prioritised joining his ‘friends’ in the Argentina camp over staying and recuperating in Liverpool earlier this month.
He was not fit enough to play the first game for Argentina and was training away from the rest of the squad but he still joined the camp.
The midfielder did start in the 6-0 win over Bolivia but only came on from the bench in Liverpool’s 2-1 over Chelsea last weekend.
Mac Allister’s mother insisted that he was desperate to join the Argentina camp as he now feels much more comfortable and integrated with the national team.
“Recently, Liverpool didn’t want him to travel because he had a minor discomfort, but he insisted on coming”, Silvina told Argentinian news channel C5N
“He spoke with the coach to come because, as I see it, it’s like he’s coming to see his friends here. It’s like he’s coming to his group here, and he feels it necessary to come.”
“He’s managing the locker room dynamics better now. He’s more relaxed, obviously – it’s been an adaptation process. But still, there’s always that admiration for [Lionel] Messi. There’s a group of more experienced players, so yes, he’s more at ease.
“I see him leaving the locker room, doing interviews, signing autographs and all that, so I think he’s more integrated with the national team now. He feels more at home.”
