Fabrizio Romano claims that Kylian Mbappe has yet to commit to anything with PSG and I thought it would be a good time to explain why he’d be better off at Anfield.
Romano reports that Neymar’s new PSG contract is ‘ready’ and set to be signed while ‘talks are on with Mbappe but nothing agreed or signed yet.’
There has been only one club in Europe the last few years that has been able to match Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on the pitch and that has been, rather annoyingly, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City
The two sides have been taking turns at the top of the Premier League over the last few years and right now, it’s the Reds turn to watch their rivals enjoy their football and soak up all the praise.
Liverpool’s poor form this season has prompted many fans to express their desire on social media to see FSG and Klopp sign Mbappe in the summer.
Before you even take a look at the mind-boggling finances that it would require to prise him from Paris Saint-Germain, there needs to be a clear and compelling argument from a purely football perspective.
And that’s where the Merseysiders can compete with any club in the world.
Before the injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, it looked as though Liverpool would be unstoppable again in the league after their utterly dominant displays last season on their way to their maiden Premier League title.
As things turned out, all it took to prevent the Reds from winning the Premier League again was a defensive injury crisis of note and hugely unexpected bad form in front of goal.
In an ordinary season, which next term will hopefully be, Mbappe would be provided with a strong base from which to help Liverpool win silverware in every tournament.
With a spine of Alisson, van Dijk, Henderson, Fabinho and Salah, there is a lot of quality at Anfield already and Mbappe would be surrounded by top-class players and not to mention proven winners.
The Reds have won the Premier League and the Champions League and adding Mbappe would further strengthen their credentials ahead of the 2021/22 season. Something PSG can’t guarantee him is a squad as strong as Liverpool’s.
While PSG have performed admirably in the Champions League the last two seasons, knocking out reigning champions Bayern Munich last night, they have a penchant for finding a way to shoot themselves in the foot.
Despite being just 22, Mbappe only needs to win the European Cup to ‘complete football’ as he has won every other trophy available to him at club level as well as having lifted the FIFA World Cup at the age of 20.
Winning the European Championships this summer will elevate the young player to a level that very few other players have achieved at such a young age.
The main attraction for Mbappe at Liverpool will be Anfield. The world-renowned stadium and its unbelievable fans can help him on the way to what is already shaping up to be a truly remarkable career.
Whether Liverpool have the finances or not to complete a deal like this, Liverpool is the perfect club for Mbappe should he leave PSG this summer or next.
