Liverpool have been brilliant under Arne Slot in the opening few weeks as manager of the club and one player in particular is shining.
Ryan Gravenberch has been excellent this season but that wasn’t always the case last season.
His debut season at the club was marked by extended periods on the bench, an inability to find his rhythm when in the side and ultimately injury.
Liverpool may not have signed any new midfielders but the Gravenberch we’re seeing this term is like a whole new player. He’s playing with confidence and class that many fans knew he was capable of.
It’s very refreshing and it may have a lot to do with Slot’s coaching based on a new report from the Daily Mail.
Slot doesn’t want Gravenberch watching the leading no.6s in the world
According to the Mail, Arne Slot has told Gravenberch not to watch videos of the best holding midfielders in the world.
The reason is that Slot wants to coach him on what to do himself. Liverpool don’t play like any other top side and so it makes sense that the Dutch coach doesn’t want the no.38 to pick up any bad habits.
Liverpool are one of the most aggressive sides in the world and so that places particular constraints on their defensive midfielders. Unlike someone like Rodri, for example, Gravenberch is also required to drive the team forward from midfield.
His powerful frame coupled with his neat control in tight spaces make him a very unique player and as we saw against Manchester United, he can scythe his way through opposition defences.
After being rejected by Martin Zubimendi, it’s going to be interesting to see how Liverpool fare with Gravenberch in midfield.
